Tribute Concert for Taylor Hawkins Features Son, Shane, On Drums

Shane Hawkins

Dozens of musicians and celebrities joined thousands of fans at London’s Wembley Stadium, to celebrate the life of late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins. Saturday’s show was the first of two concerts for Hawkins who was found dead at age 50 in Bogota, Colombia in March earlier of this year.

Dave Chappelle, Liam Gallagher, members of Queen and Mark Ronson all took stage to celebrate Hawkins’ life with performances and speeches. In a night full of special moments, the one that has stood out to many is Hawkins’ 16-year-old son Shane, joining the band on drums for a performance of “My Hero.” The teenager gave an impassioned performance, ending the song with a drum solo.

Singer Dave Grohl’s 16-year-old daughter Violet, also took the stage to perform covers from Jeff Buckley and The Zutons.  Multiple times during the concert, Grohl could be seen wiping tears from his face, even stopping midway through a performance of “Times Like These” to compose himself.

A second tribute concert is planned for September 27 at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, featuring appearances by Travis Barker, Alanis Morissette, Gene Simmons and more.
