This week lead singer of Paramore, Hayley Williams, released a new single and music video “Simmer.” The single is from her debut solo album Petals For Armor.
According to Williams in an interview with BBC’s Annie Mac, the album blossomed from an intentional hiatus Williams and the band took to focus on healing and being friends. With the support of her bandmates, what started as a creative outlet turned into 5 songs and eventually a solo album.
The horror-movie themed music video features dark scenes, red light, and Williams frantically running. She prevails in a battle against her attacker, all while her voice melodically sings her eerie lyrics.
The title for her album comes from the lyrics in the bridge of Simmer.
Williams said, “The lyric is ‘wrap yourself in petals for armor’ because I kept feeling like the way for me to protect myself best is to be vulnerable and be okay with having a lot of pain at certain times and also feeling a lot of joy at certain times.” Watch the new music video below.
