Before taking the stage at Scoot Inn, Wilderado joined us in the studio for a live performance and interview.
The indie-folk band started off with their tune “Surefire,” and didn’t shy away from harmonizing with one another. The coordination to land such flawless vocals however, isn’t an overnight accomplishment. Frontman Max Rainer confessed that sometimes, they don’t always have it together. “It takes a lot of effort, I will admit. It’s something that I think about a lot and wish that I didn’t have to think about a lot, if I can also admit. It’s an interesting thing- singing, cause it’s fun and it’s freeing and it’s beautiful. But it’s also exhausting.”
The challenges of performing live may not always be portrayed to the audience, and it takes a great deal to make sure it stays that way. Especially when it comes to playing in an unfamiliar location. “There’s a lot of conscience energy you could put into being excited rather than fearful, but you can’t stop yourself from being nervous,” said Rainer.
Before concluding their set with their song “Favors,” Wilderado also chatted about their hometown Tulsa, transitioning to life in LA, and the benefits of writing music in different weather elements.
