Brittany Howard’s powerful vocals will be charging your ears again very soon. But this time, she’s on her own. The Alabama Shakes frontwoman is coming out with her first solo album on September 20th.

The album, Jaime, is named after Howard’s sister, who passed away from cancer. The artist learned how to write poetry and play piano from her, and stated that her sister “definitely did shape [her] as a human being.”

Jaime will comprise of 11 songs. Aside from Alabama Shakes, Howard also has two other side projects. She plays in Thunderbitch and Bermuda, but decided it was time to change things up a bit when she turned 30-years-old. That determination led to establishing her solo career.

“Do I want people to understand me and know me, do I want to tell them my story? I’m very private, but my favorite work is when people are being honest and really doing themselves,” said Howard.

Now that Howard is sharing her own story, fans can get a preview of what’s to come in September with “History Repeats,” Howard’s lead single off the album. Listen to it below.
