Annual Turkey Trot

Some people are the “Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day” type of people… And some are simply not. Whether you find it absurd to exercise on a day centered around stuffing your stomachs with food or you understand the physical balance of running before eating, Horseshoe Bay Resort is hosting their 22nd annual turkey trot race. Although this family-friendly event offers a walk or run 5k-10k path for participants, there are other festivities going on during their Thanksgiving Day celebration. A fall festival, parade, and brunch will all be available on resort grounds. So while running a few miles in chilly weather before eating unhealthy amounts of Turkey might not sound like the best idea, be sure to look at the other fall festivities you can get involved in this Thanksgiving Day at Horseshoe Bay.

Thanksgiving Marshmallow Roast

As if we need anymore sweets in our stomachs after all of the pumpkin pie that gets passed around the table at Thanksgiving dinner, Craftsman neighborhood bar is hosting a marshmallow roast to conclude a day of food and friendship. Open to the public for free, Craftsman is extending a warm welcome for all Austinites to bring their friends and family to their backyard. A fire pit and marshmallows waiting to be turned into s’mores will be available, as well as seasonal cocktails for those of age.

Elf Movie Party

For some people, Thanksgiving Day is just one holiday closer to the Christmas season. Instead of focusing on pumpkins, hayrides, and pie, they are lighting the tree, shopping for presents, and dancing around the house to holiday tunes. So if you identify with the latter, then wrap up your Thanksgiving Day early and jump right into the Christmas spirit with the Elf Movie Party. On Thanksgiving night, Alamo Drafthouse is hosting a screening of Elf, a classic holiday favorite. The party will include fun props, games, and a real “snowball fight” during the film.

Thanksgiving Community Dinner

While the holidays can be a time spent with family and friends, for some far away from their loved ones, this can be a difficult season. For those who cannot make it to a Thanksgiving dinner, Buzz Mill is hosting a community gathering on Thanksgiving Day where locals can eat their meals with friends both old and new. While Buzz Mill encourages you to bring any side entree that you would like, they are offering turkey, sides, apple cider, and vegan options for all attendees. Buzz Mill believes that the holidays are meant to be spent with friends and family so head over to their community dinner on Thanksgiving Day.

Thanksgiving Dinner at Local Restaurants

If you can never seem to roast the turkey quiet right or perfect the pecan pie passed
around, then this Thanksgiving Day, give yourself a break from cooking. Thanksgiving
dinner is supposed to be stress free and tasty so this year make the decision to go out
for your family’s feast. Local restaurants in Austin such as The Driskill Grill, Cafe No Se,
Second Bar and Kitchen, and more offer special menus on this day for Thanksgiving
themed plates. Other places such as Moonshine Patio and Mattie’s at Green Pastures provide buffett style plates that allow you to load up on all of the mashed potatoes you want! So
if you want to take a break from the kitchen this Thanksgiving Day, grab your loved ones
and spend it at a local restaurant.
