Watch: Arctic Monkeys Release Short Documentary Film “Warp Speed Chic”

Alex Turner of Artic Monkeys performs at Sziget festival on August 14, 2018 in Budapest, Hungary.

After spending the majority of 2018 promoting their newest album, Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, the Arctic Monkeys have just released a short film titled “Warp Speed Chic” which illustrates the making of the album. Directed by a longtime partner of the band, Ben Chappell, the 11-minute documentary visualizes the journey of Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino through video footage of their song production, live shows, and recording the album in an antique, French mansion.

From setting up a recording studio in a remote European estate to the mix of jazz, rock and roll tunes they perform on tour, “Warp Speed Chic” simply provided visuals of the everyday life of the Arctic Monkeys. Through this film, one is further convinced that the Arctic Monkeys are a really cool band who value creativity and simplicity in their music.

Explaining his role in the film, Chappell said, “After spending a year documenting Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino I wanted to try and pull it all together in a short film. I spent a few weeks with the band in France documenting the recording process with my 16mm camera in September 2017.”

Just a few hours before the release of “Warp Speed Chic”, the Arctic Monkeys posted on their Instagram page, announcing a Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino 7” that will consist of new single, “Always”, on the B side. The vinyl is released on Nov. 30, but pre-order is available now.
