Lana Del Rey revealed more details regarding her long awaited poetry album, Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass. Del Rey’s elusive poetry album has come in and out of the music stratosphere in a few forms over the last year.
Initially the work was intended to be a hand-bound poetry book distributed to local bookstores, according to Stereogum. Eventually it became a spoken word album due in January (and again in February), but neither an official release date or follow-up on the book portion was released.
When she spoke about in December on Instagram stories, she said the album would benefit charities focused on Native American communities “whether it was for preserving their rights or trying to help keep their land intact.”
She also said, “I had wanted to do it because in doing my own work in connecting to my family lineage, I was encouraged to also try and connect with the country’s lineage.”
In her latest posts about the album, she unveiled the cover and a sneak peak of her “freestyle poetry.”
The cover art of Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass featured in her since-deleted post is by Erika Lee Sears, and it illustrates oranges dangling from a tree similar to a post-impressionism art style.
What has been confirmed is the album will feature background music by Jack Antonoff.
In the video, watch and listen to Del Rey recite lines in her whispery, lullaby voice, and cars roll by under clear, blue skies.
