Check out British punk-band IDLES while you’re out at ACL Fest this upcoming Sunday. The band released their debut album Brutalism back in 2017, and just last year released Joy as an Act of Resistance. Frontman Joe Talbot hasn’t been silent about the pain he’s endured in life. At only 16-years-old, his mother was paralyzed after stroke and died around the time of their first album release. In 2017, Talbot also suffered the loss of his daughter.
Reflecting on personal pain, the singer’s latest work with the band reveals hope towards grief. “The optimism in the album is because I’ve been through the worst thing I can. It’s okay to be scared. It’s okay to be angry, as long as you embrace that fear and anger and you let it manifest into something productive,” said Talbot in an interview with Rolling Stone.
