Find some Amazing Music Artifacts at the LBJ Presidential Library:
Residents of Austin now have the opportunity to delve into the rich tapestry of American music history with the new “Music America: Iconic Objects From America’s Music History.” Curated through a partnership between the Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music, the New Orleans Jazz Museum, and Hard Rock International, the exhibit marks a collaborative effort to commemorate America’s upcoming 250th birthday. Following its premiere in Austin, the collection will embark on a nationwide tour, bringing this celebration of musical heritage to communities across the country.
This interactive exhibition, unveiled at the LBJ Presidential Library, offers a look into the musical decades, showcasing cherished memorabilia from renowned musical figures, like the cowboy boots given to local legend Willie Nelson by Gene Autry’s widow. Also featured is Elvis Presley’s handmade velvet shirt as well as Taylor Swifts guitar and sequin bodysuit from her “Reputation” Tour.
A few favorites include Prince’s “Purple Rain” shirt, Prince’s “Cloud” guitar, Billie Holiday’s fox fur stole, John Coltrane’s saxophone, B.B. King’s guitar “Lucille,” Madonna’s wedding dress from the “Like a Virgin” video.
