Austin is a beautiful place to call home. With the help of local organizations working hard to keep this community clean, safe, scenic, and everything else you can think of that makes Austin one of a kind, it’s important to thank them and continue to show our support.
That’s why we’re participating in Amplify Austin Day, the annual day of online fundraising for Austin non-profits. We know that there are so many local organizations to choose from, so ACL Radio wants to help you by highlighting a few that we love, and could also help make your decision to donate a little easier!
Alzheimer’s Association Capital of Texas Chapter:
Their mission is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research. They work hard to provide better care and support for those who have Alzheimer’s. The Association hopes to reduce symptoms and risks of dementia by encouraging others to become aware of brain health. And it all starts by promoting a worldwide conversation about this disease.
KLRU:
With the power of media, their mission is to impact communities and change lives. With your support, they have the ability to teach people of all ages what our community has to offer through storytelling and workshops. KLRU is here to serve the community through engaging content that continues to highlight Austin’s uniqueness.
Works to change the lives of children in foster care with the power of music. They build a relationship with free one-on-one mentoring that involves weekly private music instruction. Music mentors work hard to build a strong relationship with these children, which supports them to succeed academically, socially and emotionally.
Make a Wish of Central/South Texas:
Grants wishes to children with critical illnesses. Bringing this kind of joy to a child can definitely impact their health and increase their chances of survival. Donate and help make their wishes come true.
An animal non-profit that has saved over 10,000 cats and dogs in Central Texas. They have been rescuing animals since 2008 and provide resources and educational programs that are vital to help eliminate the killing of these loving animals.
Works hard to make sure Austinites have access to green spaces. They are committed and determined to keep Austin parks alive. They offer resources, programming, and funding to ensure park improvement.

Dell Children’s
When our son was born, he had to undergo a pretty serious intestinal surgery – scariest moment (so far) for us as parents, and I’ve never forgotten Dr. Robert Schlecter, who performed the surgery perfectly and with a kind manner that helped us get through a very stressful time. He’s now the Surgeon-in-Chief at Dell Children’s Medical Center, which gives me a personal reason to support that world-class facility at every opportunity.

Keep Austin Beautiful
One of my favorite things about Austin (not always mentioned in a tourism brochure along with amazing food, expansive live music and the friendliest people you’ll ever meet) are all the beautiful, natural green spaces our city has to offer. And as we rapidly grow and expand, the need continues to keep our green spaces green. Keep Austin Beautiful is perhaps most famous for their programs to reduce litter and encourage recycling. They also do an awesome job hosting educational opportunities and public awareness campaigns about living more environmentally consciously. And I love seeing the cleanup efforts every year on Keep Austin Beautiful day; which this year is Saturday April 14th!

Anti-Defamation League
Austin is a famously tolerant and pleasant city, but I’m still relieved there’s folks fighting to make sure that’s always our story, by battling on a daily basis against racism, hate crimes and discrimination. And while the Anti-Defamation League has a great track record of working with law enforcement and victims when a hate crime occurs, they also does incredible work educating our kids before there’s a problem- their efforts to combat bullying with a school program called No Place For Hate is one of the most important, life-changing initiatives in all of the Austin non-profit world.

HAAM
My favorite local nonprofit to support is the Health Alliance For Austin Musicians. I’ve seen firsthand how this organization literally saves lives. I consider our Austin musicians a treasure, and I admire them so much for following their muse, even though it often comes with a lot of financial struggle. HAAM can be a lifesaver in desperate situations for our local artists. They also help provide affordable preventative care, so that many medical problems can be avoided. Please consider supporting them on Amplify Austin Day.

I was raised by full-time, professional musicians who met and married down the way in San Antonio. And before moving here all my local friends were Live Music Capital veteran musicians. Every one of them has told me how HAAM makes a difference, and how it sets Austin apart from other cities. Thank you, Austin musicians, for making Austin, well, Austin.
