Fans of Alabama Shakes will be seeing a different side of Brittany Howard this year as she is set to release her first solo album on September 20th.
Just one year ago, Howard spoke to her bandmates about the decision to take an unfamiliar route in her music career, saying “I knew that I needed to be in control of everything: the music, the arrangements, all that stuff. And when am I going to do it if not now?”
The countdown for her debut solo album, Jaime, is slowly coming to a finish, but Howard’s fans have been able to hear a glimpse of what’s to come with her single “History Repeats.”
Today, Howard released a brand new single and music video called “Stay High.” The music video features Terry Crews, and even a cameo from her father. Howard reached out to Crews in an email illustrating the meaning behind the song she wrote for her dad.
“And she poured her heart out in this letter. I couldn’t believe it. Brittany was like, ‘We can shoot it in L.A.,’ and I said, ‘No, I’m coming to you, we’re going to Alabama. We’re going to where you grew up, to where your family is,” said Crews. With that, Crews plays the lead role in this heart-warming story. Check it out below.
