Bruce Springsteen took the stage at The Late Show with Stephen Colbert for a solo performance of his classic cut, “The River.” Springsteen’s appearance on the show came in support of his upcoming concert film, The Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concerts, out November 16th.

The film is composed of ten never-before-released performances from Springsteen’s 1979 Madison Square Garden MUSE benefit concerts, putting together footage of the unforgettable setlist in its entirety for the first time.

On Colbert, Springsteen takes a look back in time as he discusses the cover art for the album along with some exclusive clips from the film.

The clip shares Springsteen who at the time was 30-years-old, being encouraged for an encore by his audience and members of the E Street band, but instead acts too tired. “I can’t go on like this, I’m 30 years old! My heart’s starting to go on me!” Now at 72-yeard-old and continuing the adrenaline performances, Springsteen is in awe of his own journey.

Springsteen continues the trip down memory lane by showing off his guitar, “I’ve played this guitar for 50 years,” he said. “I bought it when I was 22 for $185 on Highway 34, I think, in Belmont, New Jersey, from a man — a great guitar man named Phil Patillo… This guitar has been in every club, theater, arena, and stadium in America and most of the world.”

Still, on the move, Springsteen will join Jon Stewart and Jim Gaffigan for the 15th annual Stand Up for Heroes fundraiser.
