Beginning in 2002, Austin City Limits Festival has seen an array of artists and audiences come and go for the annual music festival. Taking place in the heart of downtown Austin in Zilker Park, each year the festival has found ways to improve the experience for all concert goers. So along with having some notably talented headliners this year including Paul McCartney, Metallica, and Arctic Monkeys, ACL Festival has made changes in their bag policies, transportation systems, and food options. In order to help prepare seasoned Austinites or first time newcomers with these changes, Austin City Limits Radio has made a list of things you should know before you go.
1. No Large Bags
A new bag policy implemented by the festival is that all bags will now be restricted to small purses, totes, fanny packs, and drawstring bags only. Bags exceeding 14” x 11” x 5” or have more than one singular pocket will not be allowed inside the festival. However, festival goers can always skip the line and fly right in through the “no bag” entry.
2. No Outside Liquids
Along with large bags being outlawed, outside liquids are no longer allowed to be brought into the festival. ACL Fest encourages guests to bring empty water bottles where they can be filled with freshly filtered water at the provided CamelBak stations inside the park.
3. New Transportation Options
ACL Fest is returning this year with multiple new modes of transportation including Uber, JUMP electric bicycles, and complementary shuttle busses. Through the ACL Fest app for mobile phones, interactive maps and drop off/pick up information can be found in detail.
4. Additional Veggie and Gluten Free Food Options
Lastly, with every great music festival, comes almost even better food. Welcoming all foodies, the ACL Fest is filled with a delicious variety of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options. Food vendors will range from notorious local eats such as Tacodeli and Burro Grilled Cheese to healthier options of JuiceLand and Blenders & Bowls. Adding a second food court to the festival grounds, ACL Fest is ensuring that all appetites and food Instagram pages will be filled to the brim with creative cuisines!
