Run the Jewels dropped their new album RTJ4 a few days before the official album release date. Initially scheduled to be out on June 5, the group made the album free to listen to on all streaming platforms, including their website.
The group released a statement on their website along with the album release. “Fuck it, why wait? The world is infested with bullshit so here’s something raw to listen to while you deal with it all. We hope it brings you some joy. Stay safe and hopeful out there and thank you for giving 2 friends the chance to be heard and do what they love,” signed Jaime and Killer Mike.
All proceeds from those who purchase the album will go to Mass Defense Program.
Even though the album is free to stream, Run the Jewels are encouraging their fans and followers to donate to organizations supporting the Black Lives Matter movement. They provided a list of organizations and charities.
Last weekend, Killer Mike gave a speech during protests asking those in his hometown of Atlanta to not vandalize the city. The artist also expressed his thoughts on the protests and urged people to vote. “It is time to beat up prosecutors you don’t like at the voting booth. It’s time to hold mayoral offices accountable, chiefs and deputy chiefs.”
