On January 22nd, Austinites will come together at ACL Live to show their support for mental health.
Hi, How Are You Day follows the Hi, How Are You Project, which is dedicated to promote the well-being of others all while overcoming the stigma of mental health.
This year marks the second annual Hi, How Are You Day benefit show. The concert lineup includes music from a variety of genres. Some of the artists showing their support to the cause this year are The Flaming Lips, Gavin DeGraw, Bob Schneider, The Black Angels, and more.
If you think “Hi, How Are You” rings a bell, you’re right!
Tom Gimbel and Courtney Blanton, the founders of the Hi, How Are You Project, were inspired by Austin singer-songwriter and visual artist Daniel Johnston to make this project. Johnston has been open about dealing with mental health himself; he created the famous mural on the corner of Guadalupe and 21st Street.
The iconic mural asking “Hi, How Are You” reflects a necessary question that we are meant to ask ourselves and others more frequently than we think, which is the message behind Hi, How Are You Day.
The impact of this show doesn’t stop there. The fundraising concert is held on Johnston’s birthday to celebrate his work.
Tickets to the show are already on sale.
Also, be sure to listen to ACL Radio this entire week for your chance to win tickets!
