Imagine Dragons unveiled two new tracks from their forthcoming record. The new material follows the group’s 2018 album Origins.
The Las Vegas pop rock band’s new material took time to create. “I’ve been working on this album with the guys for the last three years,” said frontman Dan Reynolds in a statement discussing the new releases. Reynold’s shared a Notes screenshot from his phone presenting meanings behind the band’s two new singles “Follow You” and “Cutthroat.”
There’s a juxtaposition between both songs. The frontman opened up about his personal relationship with his wife to describe “Follow You” as a story about “loyalty and love.” There’s flaws that come with loving someone, wrote Reynolds, and “it isn’t always romantic or pretty.” The artist noted that he and his wife Aja separated a few years back for seven months, “Follow You” was written after they got back together. I wanted it to represent a love that is realistic.”
“Cutthroat,” however, represents the complete opposite. “It’s an exorcism of self pity,” he noted. “Loves my past. My present. Loves my mistakes and problems. My weakness. My illness.”
