It’s sorta official.
Spoon’s almost done with their next album. Frontman Britt Daniel told Andy Langer the band’s in the process of mixing their forthcoming studio album, which means new music should be coming fairly soon.
Making an album during a pandemic is different, said Daniel. Calling attention to the world’s current status, Daniel highlighted that working in times like these is heavy for any individual right now. The singer opened up about the group’s own challenges when it came to creating the upcoming LP. “We had sessions that were canceled where everybody was coming into town from across the country and then we said ‘we just can’t do it, things are getting too crazy,’ that was in July [2020].”
The Austin band shut down recording sessions a few times as safety and health concerns became more prevalent; along with life circumstances coming into place. Initially hoping to finish the album in May 2020, the coronavirus pandemic altered that game plan. However, the Spoon singer said the halt led to writing more songs. “Believe me, it will be a much better record than the one that was gonna be finished in May.”
Coming this Saturday night, January 30 to your television screen is The Best of Spoon on Austin City Limits. It will be available to watch on PBS. Be sure to check your local PBS listings for times.
