Elton John’s Farewell Tour is Heartbreaking

Elton John completed his final United States show in Dodger Stadium, streamed to the world on Disney+. The“Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour” doesn’t officially end until 2023, with his final show scheduled next summer, ending the European segment of the tour. John performed his original double Dodger stadium sold-out shows back in 1975. Almost 50 years later he brought it full circle delivering his biggest hits along with deeper cuts into his discography.

John served up some great moments, dedicating “Border Song” to the late Aretha Franklin and reflecting on her last live performance at his 2017 AIDS Foundation gala. “Tiny Dancer” and “Rocket Man” were highlights of the show and big moments for fans.

The first special guest of the night was Brandi Carlile adding southern charm to “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me.” Kiki Dee reprised her 1976 duet with Elton on “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.” Rounding out his musical guests was Dua Lipa performing the Rocket Man inspired song “Cold Heart” in the first encore.

Elton’s most special guest appearance was his husband David Furnish and their two sons, a truly heartwarming moment.

Elton John and Britney Spears have released the acoustic version of their hit duet, “Hold Me Closer.”

The music video for ‘Hold Me Closer (Acoustic)’ features Olympic Gold Medalist Nathan Chen ice skating to a routine he choreographed himself.  Chen, a lifelong fan of Elton John, decided to use his Elton John-inspired program for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, where he won the Gold Medal for his performance. Following his Olympic victory, Chen and fellow ice-skating colleagues attended one of John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour performances in Charlotte, North Carolina where Elton surprised him with a shout-out from the stage.
