The official “Long Story Short: Willie Nelson 90, A Star-Studded Concert Celebrating Willie’s 90th Birthday” was a blast!
Willie Nelson’s 90th birthday was a huge celebration at Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, featuring performances from an eclectic mix of musicians such as Snoop Dogg, Neil Young, The Chicks, Kris Kristofferson, Chris Stapleton, Ziggy Marley, and more. The concert began with a set from Billy Strings, who performed two of Nelson’s most beloved songs, “Whiskey River” and “Stay a Little Longer.” Later, he returned to play guitar for Bob Weir on a rendition of “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain,” from Nelson’s iconic 1975 album, “Red Headed Stranger.”
After his recent return, Neil Young and Stephen Stills reunited for a Buffalo Springfield performance playing classics like “For What It’s Worth” and “Long May You Run,” before inviting Willie Nelson to join them on stage for a rendition of their 1985 collaboration, “Are There Any More Real Cowboys?”
Nelson welcomed George Strait to perform a fan-favorite “Sing One With Willie,” and Nelson’s duet with the late Merle Haggard, “Pancho and Lefty.”
The crowd enjoyed songs from Charley Crockett, Micah Nelson, Edie Brickell, Charlie Sexton, Margo Price, Nathaniel Rateliff, Beck, Norah Jones, Roseanne Cash, Lukas Nelson, Leon Bridges, Gary Clark Jr, Jack Johnson, Tyler Childers, Ziggy Marley, Tom Jones, Bob Weir andThe Chicks!
Snoop Dogg joined him on stage to “roll one up,” then they performed 2012’s “Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die” with Snoop on harmonica.
