Father and country artist Steve Earle is honoring his late son Justin Townes Earle with a new covers album titled J.T.
Earle released the covers album on January 4, which would have been his son’s 39th birthday. There are a total of 11 songs that Earle selected from Justin Townes Earle discography.
The country artist titled the tribute album J.T. because “Justin was never called anything else until he was nearly grown.” Earle said, “I loved Justin Townes Earle more than anything else on this earth. That being said, I made this record, like every other record I’ve ever made… for me. It was the only way I knew to say goodbye.”
The musician’s son died in August 2020 in Nashville from a “probable drug overdose.” Earle said “100% of the artist advances and royalties from J.T. will be donated to a trust” for Justin and Jenn Earle’s three-year-old daughter Etta St. James Earle.
