Mosser Show Notes Tue 7/28: Vaccine Progress, Aggies, Lolla…and Metal!

Here’s hoping you’re hanging okay as we slog through the weirdest time of just about all of our lives, in many cases a rough time for finance and health as well. It’s important for all of us to remember that there are lots of folks out there who have it worse than we do, including some who literally won’t survive. I could change my mind by tomorrow, but this morning I can’t shake the feeling that this will all end well, sooner than later. I have tried to follow science and not get my hopes up, but most of what I’m hearing and reading about the progress toward one if not several workable COVID vaccines is encouraging. It’s almost like being in a war, but being able to see an impending truce on the horizon – and you sure don’t want to be one of the last to fall before the war ends! Take comfort in the good news about progress against the disease, but don’t let it fool you into dropping your guard. Best practices!

Also on the COVID tip, another win for the Aggies as Texas A&M has been tapped to be a major player in the eventual production of a successful vaccine.

I have greatly enjoyed streaming the Lollapalooza Festival from Chicago here at the house for the last several years – it’s always served as a nice mental prep for our own ACL Fest, which normally follows a couple of months later. Both events are off due to the ‘Rona this year as you know, but nonetheless Lolla will do the streaming thing this weekend via YouTube, featuring vintage sets, new performances, special guests and notably, a reunion of Lolla founder Perry Farrell and Jane’s Addiction sequel band Porno For Pyros – all for free! Will ACL do something similar this fall to fill the time? We shall find out.

Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota weighs in on the new Save Our Stages bill she has co-authored with our own Senator John Cornyn, in the digital pages of Rolling Stone.

Someone joked yesterday that Taylor Swift’s creative arc, most recently reflected in her new album folklore, seems to point to her eventually cranking out a death metal album. Just so happens that a death metal band is calling Tay Tay out for ripping off their album cover!

And let’s wrap in metal mode, with a truly extraordinary remote cover of the Rush classic “Anthem”, as rendered by a total supergroup comprised of members of Coheed and Cambria, Primus, Tool, Mastodon and more – best enjoyed loud!
