Local animal shelter Austin Pets Alive! is in dire need of volunteers and donations following record-high temperatures last weekend. APA! is a no-kill facility and has saved over ten thousand animals’ lives every year since its opening in 2008.
Box fans, coolers, ice and monetary donations towards generators and awnings are among the list of donations APA! can use to help keep each of their sheltered animals safe from over-heating. Many dogs have been relocated inside the office or into foster homes, but many are still outside at the mercy of misting fans and ice brought to them by volunteers.
Donations can be taken to Building A of APA!’s main facility on West Cesar Chavez, near Austin High School. APA! is also asking that anyone in the community available to foster an animal for two weeks or more come forward. More information and a form for fostering can be found here. Stay updated on APA!’s Facebook page.
