Israel Nash in the Dell Music Lounge

Indie rocker Israel Nash graced the Dell Music Lounge on Thursday with an intimate performance of songs from his brand new album, “Lifted,” which dropped late last night. Nash opened the show with the first track off “Lifted,” “Rolling On,” a tranquil track with bluesy crying steel guitar, Nash’s signature raspy vocals and impressive range and contemplative lyrics like “I looked into the distance and in case you missed it/A thousand lights just faded out at once/Shouting from the rooftops to a ghost town all riled up/I knew I’d better keep the peace.” Tonight, the “Rain Plans” singer is taking the big stage at Scoot Inn for what’s sure to be another incredible show.

In his interview with KGSR’s Andy Langer, Nash shared what had brought him to Texas in the first place, joking that his Texan band members had told him “about stuff like that you can get pickles at a movie theater, and this crazy lore of Texas so I had to get up and come on out.” Wait, they don’t do that everywhere?! Noted.

Nash also opened up about the inspiration behind “Lifted.” “I wanted to convey some things that I was thinking about and dealing with… life purpose questions, those things that you get to – self-inquiry and reflection, ‘who am I,’ ‘what does this mean’ or ‘me as a man,’ or ‘me as a dad?’ said Nash. “So I think [making the album] was a lot of time of coming to term with some of those things for me and wanting to share that in music because I realized how deeply music continues to – as a kid it shaped who I was – and as an adult, it’s taken me out into the world and connected me with people, and those are the gifts that I see in music – being way bigger than just the song.”

When asked if “Lifted” feels like a new beginning, the Missouri native admitted the great feelings he had about watching a new record go through so many stages and then finally being able to share it with fans. “The excitement now is to really get it out there, and to share, and to work, and to go out, and to be – so it’s very exciting.”
