Ho Hey! The Lumineers made a surprise return to streaming platforms on Friday with a three-track collection titled “C-Sides,” comprised of previously-used songs that had remained unreleased to the public until now.
You may recognize the first track, “Scotland,” as the popular opening theme for the CW’s “Reign,” a drama about the young Mary Queen of Scots. The second track “For Fra” is a short n’ sweet instrumental that drummer Jer Fraites wrote for his then-girlfriend (now wife), Francesca (hence “Fra”) as a birthday present. The song never made it onto an album, but its chords laid the foundation for “Angela” from the Lumineers’ 2016 album “Cleopatra.” Finally, “Visions of China” is a reflection of front man Wes Schultz’s time living in Hangzhou, China, where his inability to speak the language left him a great deal of time to record, write and draw inspiration from the things he’d experienced in the distant country. The subdued, pensive tune made it onto the season four soundtrack of the hit AMC zombie-apocalypse-thriller series “The Walking Dead.”
With three new songs now finding permanent homes on the “C-Sides” EP, fans are hopeful for more exciting news from The Lumineers in the near future. Listen to “Scotland,” “For Fra” and “Visions of China” below:
