Watch: The Cure Put on 40th Anniversary Show in London

Robert Smith of The Cure

Legendary goth pop group the Cure played in London’s Hyde Park on Saturday in honor of their forty years together as a band. Their only show in Europe this year, the English rockers put on one of their classic two-hour long sets, plus a modest ten-song encore. Front man and only constant member since the band’s birth, Robert Smith, touchingly shared a sentiment regarding his four decades living his life’s passion, saying “If you had asked me then—if any of you had been alive, some of you–what d’you think you’ll be doing in 40 years, I think I would’ve been wrong with my answer. But thanks to everyone around me, I’m still here—and to you as well, thank you very much.”

Before seguing into their ’79 hit single “Boys Don’t Cry” from their first ever record “Three Imaginary Boys,” Smith shared that he and the group plan to be back in the studio soon, right in time for “Three’s” 40th Anniversary, confessing that having something new out by then would be the only true way to continue on as a band in 2019.

Check out “Boys Don’t Cry” below from the encore, as well as the band’s full, two-hour-long set:
