This year’s annual fundraiser for the Hi How Are You Project is tomorrow (Friday 1/22), as so many have before, is a virtual affair this year and taking the form of the Happy Habit-A-Thon – an interactive exercise in being mindful of our mental self-care during a time of stress and isolation. Looks great and we hope you’ll participate – look for City Hall and other buildings around downtown Austin to be lit in Jeremiah The Innocent Green in honor of the effort, and listen for Hi How Are You head honcho Tom Gimbel on the show tomorrow morning for more details! As heard on the show this morning, three musical highlights from last night’s “Celebrating America” virtual inauguration presentation, which was awesome! If you missed it, Austin got a really nice collective shout-out in the form of a Black Pumas performance from ACL Live at the Moody Theater – I’ll hit Tom up for background details on this as well, on Friday morning.
One thing I’m hoping for under the new administration is renewed respect and support for education – especially for our teachers. The Foo Fighters piece came out of a statement from Seattle teacher Mackenzie Adams, who was recognized for her viral remote learning techniques, and includes a nice memory from head Foo Dave Grohl about his mom, who was also a public school teacher – GIVE ‘EM A RAISE JOE.
And last, an exquisite performance to kick off the show from Bruce Springsteen, from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, with host Tom Hanks shivering nearby. I’m not crying, you’re crying.
