If you live in the northwest quarter of Austin – say, west of Mopac and north of Rollingwood and West Lake Hills, chances are good you’re either in Austin City Council District 6, or District 10, which means it’s almost time to vote again. Both sitting Council Members Jimmy Flannigan of 6 and Alison Alter of 10 are facing runoff opponents for their seats. They both got more votes than their challengers in the November election, but less than 50 percent of the total, and thus the runoff – which will see far less participation than the main event, and is thus an easier potential win for a motivated and/or well-funded challenger. Bear in mind that Austin is a “single member district” city – in other words, the part of town you live in has one person on the Council who’s supposed to be looking out for your particular interests – so this election, while not super sexy, matters quite a bit to your day to day life. Early voting starts Thursday and runs through December 15. Plus, voting is fun and the lines and crowds should be a lot more manageable than they were last month. Lots more info HERE.
