Black Friday is an American tradition that some enjoy taking part in, where the Friday after Thanksgiving Day signals the beginning of the gift-giving season in December. Although not everyone agrees with Black Friday shopping, it is known as one of the biggest day’s in the retail industry. Taking advantage of this spending day, Record Store Day (RSD) was created in 2007 as a gathering for record stores across the country to celebrate the unique culture and diversity found in independent, local record stores.

As the Live Music Capital of the World, Austin, Texas is taking place again in this year’s Black Friday Record Store Day. Starting at 9 am on Friday, Nov. 23, Waterloo Records is offering over 175 indie exclusive, limited edition releases on LP and CD, including the Austin City Limits Radio Broadcasts Vol. 26 vinyl and CD.

One limited edition release to get excited for while you’re at Waterloo, Antone’s Records, Piranha Records, or Wild About Music is the Austin City Limits Radio Broadcasts Vol. 26 vinyl and CD which features live recordings from right here in Austin from artists like Leon Bridges, Vance Joy, Barns Courtney and so many more.

Also keep an eye out for packages from Hoizer, Manchester Orchestra, The Wombats, Paul McCartney, and Talking Heads. Specifically, Hozier’s most recent EP Nina Cried Power will be available on 12” vinyl. Manchester Orchestra is releasing a new colored vinyl that consists of six demo version of tracks from their album A Black Mile To The Surface. The Wombats are celebrating the 10th year anniversary of their first self-titled EP, which will be available on vinyl for the first time ever.

Talking Heads is another band that we are ecstatic to see participating in RSD. With a special edition, translucent red vinyl that is limited to 5500 units worldwide, the fourth studio album from Talking Heads known as Remain in Light is being released on this day. Last but not least, Sir Paul McCartney’s singles “I Don’t Know” and “Come Onto Me” is a “one-time pressing of a special Double A Side single featuring tracks from Paul McCartney’s 17th solo album, Egypt Station” being offered through RSD.

Just in time for the gift giving season to commence, Waterloo Records is hosting a Record Store Day Black Friday to remind us that music can be one of the best presents to give someone. Throughout your Black Friday festivities, stop by this local record store to hunt down your favorite albums and find deluxe packages that are offered for only a limited amount of time. Snacks and drinks will be offered for shoppers at Waterloo Records on RSD.
