Max Frost “Lay Me Down Easy” [LIVE SXSW 2015]
In 2015, Austin City Limits Radio was joined by Max Frost at the Live Morning Broadcast during SXSW. Rocking all-white attire, Frost slowed things down with a breathtaking acoustic rendition of “Lay Me Down Easy.”
Frost released his first studio album Gold Rush in 2018. The Austin native also toured with Twenty One Pilots as one of the opening acts. Moving forward to 2019, the rising singer joined us again in the summertime at Blues on the Green. Frost has released two singles this year, “Back in the Summer” and “Sayonara.” Quarantine has led to some live streams for the artist; he shared a snippet of one back in March with the caption “Everyone: “Hey you sure you’ll be ok quarantined by yourself?” Me: “ya man I’ll be good” 4 days later…”
Frost was recently set to play a live broadcast with ACL Live in early June, however the 27-year-old artist canceled his performance to prevent any sort of interruption on the Black Lives Matter Movement. The live stream was rescheduled for June 24 and will benefit the Austin Justice Coalition.

The Band of Heathens “Deep is Love” [LIVE ACL 2017]
The Band of Heathens dropped by for an outdoor performance at Threadgill’s back in 2017 for ACL Radio’s Live Morning Broadcast during ACL Fest. The group performed “Deep is Love” off their 2017 album Duende.
The Austin band is set to drop a new album, Stranger, on September 25 and released a single called “Today is Our Last Tomorrow.” Stream it below.
The Band of Heathens have kept fans entertained with their virtual performances on social media. The group created a Zoom series called The Good Time Supper Club where they sing a few tracks of their own, or covers. Fans can tune in on their website every Tuesday at 7:30pm CT. One of their latest covers includes Stealers Wheel’s 1972 song “Stuck In The Middle With You.” Watch below.
The New Pornographers “High Ticket Attractions” [LIVE SXSW 2017]
Canadian indie rock group The New Pornographers performed at ACL Radio’s Live Morning Broadcast during SXSW in 2017. The musical collective released their eighth studio album In the Morse Code of Brake Lights last year.
Earlier this year the group embarked on their Australian tour. Fortunately, the tour concluded right before the coronavirus pandemic occurred. The current protests over racial injustice in the United States have been vocalized by the group on social media. The New Pornographers shared their support towards the Black Lives Matter movement and provided information on non-profit organizations who are fighting social issues and police brutality. “We support these organizations and stand by all those protesting and advocating for #blacklivesmatter. Please donate if you’re able, share, protest and remember to vote in November!”
Mt. Joy “Jenny Jenkins” [LIVE ACL 2018]
Austin City Limits Radio had the chance to hang with Mt. Joy backstage at ACL Fest in 2018. Check out their performance of “Jenny Jenkins” from their self-titled album.
It’s a year of new music for the group. Earlier this month, the band released their sophomore studio album Rearrange Us. Prior to the release, Mt. Joy dropped a few songs from the album, including the track “Death,” which was released after the band told fans on Instagram that if they reached 1,000 pre-saves on Rearrange Us they would release a new track. They received triple that number.
Initially, Mt. Joy didn’t plan on postponing their album release date, hoping it would “create a welcome distraction from reality,” aka the pandemic. But when George Floyd was murdered, the Philadelphia natives attempted to move the release date. With not enough time on their hands, Rearrange Us came out on it’s original set date, but Mt. Joy urged fans to “stay focused” on the bigger picture. 100 percent of the album profits from the first week were donated to Campaign Zero.

Bob Schneider “Into the Sun” [LIVE SXSW 2014]
Bob Schneider performed at Austin City Limits Radio’s Live Morning Broadcast during SXSW back in 2014. Watch the Austin favorite perform “Into the Sun.”
Schneider dropped a new version of his classic “40 Dogs (Like Romeo and Juliet)” Prior to the release of “40 Dogs (T.B.M. Version),” Schneider released a statement urging fans to stay home after learning Texas could potentially be one of the hardest states hit with coronavirus. The artist then followed with a proposal, asking fans to submit home footage to later be used for a music video of the new track. “I’ll create a compilation video set to one of my songs and post it on my social media.” Watch the final piece below.
