Steve Earle “Ain’t Nobody’s Daddy Now” [LIVE SXSW 2015]
Steve Earle joined Austin City Limits Radio at the Live Morning Broadcast during SXSW back in 2015. The folk singer performed “Ain’t Nobody’s Daddy Now” off his 2015 album Terraplane.
Fast forward to 2020, the Grammy award-winning artist released his 20th studio album called Ghosts of West Virginia. One month after his album release date, the singer-songwriter joined us for a virtual Dell Music Lounge, performing a song off his new album, and his latest protest acoustic-single called “Times Like These.” “Times like these/ Make me wanna get down on my knees/ Pray to heaven someone help us, please/ Find our way again/ Times like this/ When it looks as dark as it can get/I just wanna give it up and quit I remember when,” sings Earle.
In his Dell Music Lounge interview with Andy Langer, Earle states he wrote “Times Like These” at the start of Donald Trump’s presidency. Even though the song isn’t included in Earle’s new album, the protest single will be available to purchase on Record Store Day.

Erika Wennerstrom “Extraordinary Love” [LIVE SXSW 2018]
A solo performance from Heartless Bastards’ vocalist Erika Wennerstrom. The artist treated fans to an acoustic rendition of “Extraordinary Love” from her debut solo album Sweet Unknown at ACL Radio’s Live Morning Broadcast during SXSW in 2018.
Heartless Bastards had not released any new music in five years, that all changed this week. The Austin based group dropped a new single titled “Revolution.” The group teamed up with Space Flight Records and a portion of the proceeds from the single’s downloads will be donated to ACLU. The song is available to download through Bandcamp, which supports musicians during the pandemic.
In an Instagram post, Wennerstrom released a statement on the meaning behind their latest track, calling it a “mantra.” The artist said it’s “reminder to myself to avoid playing the game as much as I can. I don’t need this, and I don’t need that. I don’t need to compare myself to others.” Listen to the new song below.
Lucius “Born Again Teen” [LIVE SXSW 2016]
Watch Lucius perform “Born Again Teen” at our 2016 Live Morning Broadcast during SXSW.
The indie-pop group originate from New York and have released three studio albums, their latest in 2018 called Nudes. Recently, Lucius vocalists Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig joined forces with Bright Eyes on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the performance marked a celebration for Bright Eyes, who had not performed together in nearly ten years. Divine Fits “Would that not be nice” [SXSW 2013]
Divine Fits formed in 2012 and comprises of Spoon’s frontman Britt Daniel, Dan Boeckner, Sam Brown, and Alex Fischel. The alternative rock group hung out with us at our Live Morning Broadcast during SXSW in 2013 and performed their bop “Would That Not Be Nice” from their 2012 debut album A Thing Called Divine Fits.
The Hold Steady “The Ambassador” [SXSW 2014]
The Hold Steady joined us at our Live Morning Broadcast during SXSW. The group performed a track off their 2014 album Teeth Dreams. Just last year, the band released their seventh studio album Thrashing Thru the Passion.
Their tour was unfortunately postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, the band has stayed connected with fans online through virtual live streams on Bandcamp. “Part of the proceeds from your Bandcamp live show purchase go to various venue employee funds of places we’ve played recently and, in some cases, released live recordings from,” wrote the group on Instagram. The Hold Steady have been vocal on their social media about at-risk independent music venues, asking fans to take action and support the live music scene during the pandemic.
